Fieldwork Expertise
Within Helford Geoscience LLP we have over twenty years of field-based research experience, working in areas such as Antarctica, South America, New Zealand, Spain and NW Scotland. In particular we have worked on a wide range of both clastic and carbonate sedimentary systems. We have led more than 60 residential field geology training courses at undergraduate level including courses in SW England, Mull, Rum, Cumbria, Dorset and Pembrokeshire. In addition to our expertise as field geologists, we can design and implement field sampling strategies for projects as diverse as the evaluation of geological evidence at crime scenes, to exploration geology and contaminated land assessments. In addition to our field expertise we are familiar with the logistic and health and safety support required for the delivery of field based training.
Field-based training Courses
Within Helford Geoscience LLP we can deliver specialist field-based training courses for clients ranging from interested amateur groups through to undergraduate and postgraduate students and company geologosts. We can provide detailed field training programmes and organise field course logistics and delivery. In addition in 2008 we aim in collaboration with the forensic ecologist Patricia EJ Wiltshire, to launch the delivery of specialised field sampling training courses for criminal forensic investigations where soil, sediment, botanical or geological trace evidence might aid an investigation. The field-based training will be augmented by lecture courses in how the environmental, biological and geological sciences can aid crime investigations. These training courses will be aimed specifically at Senior Investigating Officers, Detectives, Scene of Crime Managers, Scene of Crime Officers and Crime Scene Investigators.
In 2007-2008 we are delivering University-level field based courses in Dorset-Devon, Rum and Pembrokeshire.
